This is a replacement commercial grade wind speed cartridge for the standard anemometer manufactured after 2013 which includes a bearings set and is compatible with anemometers that an hour glass shaped body (see photo)
A cost effective replacement for an anemometer that has had extensive use and worn wind speed bearings making the wind cups jam or become stiff.
How to install
- Move the anemometer to a safe working level if necessary noting its orientation before removal.
- Locate the hex bolt on the side of the wind cups, unless these are missing, and loosen. There is no need to fully remove the hex bolt.
- Pull the cups straight down to remove.
- Locate the large black cross head screw on the existing cartridge and fully remove.
- Whilst keeping the top section of the anemometer head held in place install the new cartridge and screw into position.
- Replace the wind cups onto the shaft. There is no correct orientation.
- Tighten the wind cups using the hex bolt on the side until this grips the metal shaft. A gentle pull up will ensure they are secure.
- Test by spinning and checking a reading registers.
- Return the sensor suite to its original location and orientation.
If you have lost your Allen key to remove the hex bolt, these are available as a spare item.
Working perfect. Great experience ordering from Weather Spares, quick and efficient even to anotjer jurisdiction.
Our Davis weather station stopped reporting low wind speeds and I suspect gusts were being under recorded. The original cartridge clearly needed replacing.
Ordered this cartridge online and delivery was very prompt.
The cartridge is secured by one screw and easily removed. The new one is different in that the part housing the magnet is now sealed, a big improvement. Comparing the spindles the new one was silky smooth whereas the old one grated.
Apart from the time spent accessing the weather station the whole job took no more than 15 minutes.
I should have really replaced this before now. I purchased the weather station nearly 8 years ago and I noticed that the readings were low about a year ago. The replaced bearings now means that l record light zephyrs! Good service by Weather's pares at a competitive price.
This replacement cartridge for weather station anemometers effectively restores wind speed readings. Customers praised its "silky smooth" operation and easy installation, taking just 15 minutes. The sealed design is an improvement over older versions. Shoppers appreciated the cost savings versus buying a complete assembly, though some noted needing replacement every 3 years in coastal areas.

The unit arrived quickly and was well protected for its travel through hr post. I was please to find that the replacement part is now sealed unlike the original part it replaced. Hopefully that will ensure a longer life for the unit.
Very easy to replace and worked straight away.
Perfect.
I've just been corrected. This is a genuine Davis part, not an aftermarket part.
This replacement part contains the bearings and the rotating magnet for the the anemometer. One screw removes it completely.
Our Davis has given great service over many years in our exposed coastal location. The only downside has been that we need a new anemometer every three years or so and the huge expense of a new unit each time.
It was good to find that WeatherSpares can supply the speed cartridge separately, so this time we got two for good measure!
Watching the wind cups on my anemometer staying still in even strong wind gusts made me decide that something needed replacing. An initial search turned up a complete anemometer assembly, but further searching brought up this spare part, at a much cheaper price. The spare part was ordered and was sent very quickly by Weather Spares.
Installation of the part was very easy and straight forward, the biggest part was getting the ladder out to bring the anemometer pole down. Once this was down, the replacement was easy, removed the cups, remove the old wind speed cartridge, which is held in place with a Philips screw. Put the new wind speed cartridge in, replace the screw, replace the wind cups, and the job is done! I gave it a quick test before replacing the anemometer pole, just a little blow on the cups was sufficient to set them spinning, and viewed in the console.
All in all, start to finish to me no longer than 45 minutes.
I thoroughly recommend this as a replacement if your anemometer is not spinning freely.

After having seen low wind speed readings for a while I decided to bring down the wind sensors.
Looking at the speed sensor it was obvious this was sticking.
It seemed the only option would be to replace the whole assembly.
However after finding this, which is a huge saving over buying the whole assembly (oh and I also got the Tiny Allen key as it was put away for safe keeping 6 years ago and lost)
Order place and arrived a few days later well packaged.
Wind sensors all down again.
Remove the wind cups with the Tony Allen Key.
Remove the Speed Cartridge with a Phillips screw driver.
Install new speed cartridge (the new Cartridge also has a cover over the magnet which doesn't need to be removed)
Install back and re-attachbwith Phillips screw and then add back wind cups with tiny Allen key.
Install back to final position.
Despite being a very calm day the wind was detected again at 6mph which was much higher than it has been reading over the past week in windier conditions.
Ironic that since having the sensors installed we haven't had much wind lately.
I'm very happy with the purchase and service.

With my last Davis anemometer I had to purchase the new unit completely after it failed to record wind speed and jammed. Just replaced this part of 5 years use near the coast and saved me a pretty packet. Great service.
I would like to know if this cartridge contains the reed switch which measures the wind speed.
No, this cartridge is for the Davis anemometers that no longer use the reed switch. The additional pictures in the product details shows the shape of anemometer head that is is compatible with.
